MEET THE TEAM

MELINDA
Founder/Psychosocial Recovery Coach/Support Coordinator
I am a very proud wife, mother and grandmother and have one tiny chihuahua. Family is extremely important to me and I love spending time with them.
I enjoy a good night out with friends, as much as a quiet get together at home.
Self-care is important to me and includes my favourite oils, candles, baths, books, walking along the beach and listening to music that makes my soul take notice.
My passion for quality mental health support and suicide prevention, comes from lived experience of losing my brother to suicide. He was my drive to start Fortitude. I have taken this personal experience, grief and learnt experience from my career and training and turned it into my dream of, not only supporting people, but also supporting an amazing team to feel inspired to do the same. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing our Participants feel supported and develop trusted relationships with our team, where they feel safe and heard. Walking along side people through their journey, is a privilege that we here at Fortitude, don’t take for granted. When our Participants kick goals, so do we. Supporting them to live their best life, is what it’s all about. While there is life, there is always hope.

HEAVEN
Mental Health Support Worker/Assistant Team Leader
I have just completed a Bachelor of Human Services degree and start my Masers of Social Work soon, with the future career goal of becoming a counsellor. I have worked within the disability and mental health sector for over 8 years. I love to travel when I get the chance and have two beautiful children. We love spending time together as a family and exploring new places.
I enjoy socialising with family and friends, whether that may be a fun night out or a BBQ at home. I make incredible cheesecakes and love using my creative skills and eye for details to help people set up and decorate their events.
I’m passionate about helping people and making sure they know that they are not alone in their journey. I do the work that I do, with the hope that I can do my part to reduce the stigma around mental illness. I always work with a non-judgmental attitude, using a person-centered approach. I value lived experience and hope that with sharing lived experience, showing empathy and support, that I can empower those who struggle to live their best lives.
I work with the belief, that we are not in this alone, and with the right support, you can build up trust, a beautiful working relationship and make changes you once never thought possible.

BECK
Mental Health Support Worker
I am a proud mum of two teens and one fur baby. I have come to Fortitude with experience from the disability sector.
In my free time, I like going on bush and beach walks, bike riding, catching up with friends and family and going on road trips to nowhere in particular, which usually ends up at a lookout/waterfall or catching sunsets by the beachside.
My all time favourite band is the Foo Fighters and I enjoy listening to a variety of music from old school rock to modern day country.
I love my job as a Mental Health Support Worker. It is a very rewarding role. I enjoy helping people and seeing them happy when they are supported to do and see the things that they love.

ASH
Psychosocial Recovery Coach/Support Coordinator
After working in the travel industry for the best part of a decade, 5 years ago, I felt a strong calling to change up my career and do something different. Something where I felt that I could use the skills I had acquired through my own recovery journey and give back to our community. I also felt my skills as a qualified meditation teacher could benefit others.
I believe taking care of oneself first is necessary in order to do the work that we do. I spend time looking after my mind and body with regular exercise and meditation. Although my routine has changed the last few years, as I welcomed my first son into the world and spend half my time chasing a toddler around. I like travelling, going to the beach, dancing and listening to music.
I dislike crumbs or sand in the bed, gherkins on cheeseburgers (I takes them off and puts fries on instead).
Over the past 5 years, I have proven my ability to be an efficient, proactive Recovery Coach and Support Coordinator. I build strong trusted relationships with Participants and colleagues. I hold boundaries and space, which has proven to be highly welcomed by Participants. I do this by listening to Participants, discovering their interests and tailoring my approach to each individual and always following through.

VICKY
Mental Health Support Worker
While being a mum is the most important thing to me, I feel like I’ve put myself last for a very long time, by not pursuing a career that has purpose. Having the opportunity to work with Fortitude, has given me a reason to want to go to work every day and I love it. I always find myself laughing and making a difference to our Participants. This gives me reason to be proud of what I do. I believe that our support means so much to many people within our community.
In my spare time, I love nothing more than hanging out with my 2 children which are my absolute world, seeing them happy makes me happy. We are huge animal lovers so a lot of our time is taken up on our household full of pets and kids sports.
I also love making time for myself to enjoy a night out with the girls and a day at the races.

HOPE
Mental Health Support Worker
I am a mother and a wife but more than that, I am a mental health warrior. My passion to work in mental health stems from my own lived experience and remembering the feeling of the low points that makes me want to help people who feel like they’ve lost their shine.
In my spare time, I enjoy eating really good food and indulging in our local area’s treasures. I love to make people feel better and help support them to become the best versions of themselves. My remedy to any bad day is a walk on the beach or dancing around the house to music.
I always aim to provide resources and tools to Participants that help them gain back their power through their own recovery.

JASMINE
Mental Health Support Worker
I’m easy going. I enjoy going out and trying new things. It could be from a new cafe to exploring new places. I’m a mum and spending time with my family is important to me.
Some of my favourite things are reading a good book, playing piano and going for long walks, whilst blaring music or listening to a podcast.
My drive for being a mental health worker, stems from my own experiences and just how important it is to have that support in one’s life and the impact it can make. I’m caring by nature and always aim to do the best that I can each day. I hope to be that pillar of support that can help those achieve their goals.

ELLA
Mental Health Support Worker
I am currently studying Occupational Therapy at University, wishing to specialise in mental health. I have a real love for learning and being challenged, as I am quick to think on my feet.
I have a big heart, a love for making people smile and making a difference in people’s lives. At my core, I’m caring and empathetic, and enjoy being able to support people with their wants and needs.
When I’m not studying, you’ll usually find me listening to music, at Pilates or the gym, or hanging out with my two very spoilt French bulldogs. I’m always up for a coffee date, trying new foods, and spending time with people I care about.
I enjoy working in mental health and learning about each and every person I work with.

NERIDA
Mental Health Support Worker
I’m a very proud Mum and MeMa. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren whom I adore. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, walking at the beach with our dog, bike riding, surfing, camping and weekends away with my husband and family.
I wanted to use my past experiences healing myself and working with clients, to work within community services and support people to be their best selves.
I love working with Melinda and the Fortitude Illawarra team. The opportunity I have to make a difference in our community, is something I am very proud of.

TRACEY
Mental Health Support Worker
I’m a wife to my wonderful husband, a mum to two beautiful girls, and a proud dog owner. Family is incredibly important to me, and I cherish the time spent with them. I love walking my dog and making memories with my loved ones and friends.
Every year, we go camping together, and it’s one of my favorite traditions. I also enjoy traveling to different states, exploring new places and experiences.
As a mental health support worker, I find my job to be deeply rewarding. I take great joy in chatting with my clients, helping them problem solve, listening to their stories, and offering support. I also love going on walks or even small adventures with them, which creates meaningful connections and helps foster their well-being.

TEAGAN
Mental Health Support Worker
As a mental health support worker with lived experience, I really enjoy supporting people on their journey in life. Whether it's offering a listening ear, helping with daily tasks, or just being there when someone needs support, I aim to create a safe and respectful space.
My own experiences have shaped my empathy and inspired a genuine passion for helping others feel seen, heard and supported.
I'm someone who enjoys the simple things in life. Spending time outdoors, being around animals and making the most of time with family. I love going camping and bush walking with friends. Whether it's a quiet weekend away or a walk with good company, I find peace in the outdoors and I enjoy connecting with loved ones.

CHARNEE
Psychosocial Recovery Coach/Support Coordinator
I have really enjoyed the past few years working as a mental health support worker. I love helping people work through life’s ups and downs. I’m all about being there with kindness and understanding, and just really listening.
When I’m not at work, you’ll usually find me outside. Whether it’s going for a long walk or hanging out with my furry (and not-so-furry) animal friend, because a little fresh air and some good company go a long way!
Being in nature helps me clear my head and feel grounded. I also love hanging out with family and friends; they keep me balanced and remind me what really matters.
I try to bring that same positive vibe and connection into the support I give.

NICOLE
Mental Health Support Worker
I am a proud mother of three wonderful adult children, and a doting Nanny to two beautiful granddaughters and an adorable little grandson.
My career has been rooted in healthcare for most of my adult life. I began in aged care before my son became unwell at the age of two, requiring many blood tests. This experience inspired me to pursue a certificate in blood collection, which led to a fulfilling 12-year career as a blood collector. It was during this time that my passion for mental health care began to grow. Being able to be a support to vulnerable people having tests, not knowing the outcome, really made me see that supporting people is what I do well and where I wanted my career to go.
That led me to working for Fortitude Illawarra. The time I spend with Participants is deeply rewarding. Whether it’s supporting them with daily living, enjoying a walk by the beach, or simply sharing a laugh. My goal is always to brighten their day, while building trust and meaningful connections that help them work toward their personal goals.

MICHELLE
Mental Health Support Worker
I really enjoy my job as a mental health support worker. I have lived experience, which means I really understand what it's like to go through tough times, and I'm passionate about supporting others through theirs. I'm a naturally caring person and I love being someone people can rely on. I really enjoy that we don’t know what each day brings when we go to work, what adventure we will go on or what story will be shared.
I’m also a proud mum of two awesome kids. I love spending my free time in the garden, it helps keep me grounded.
I don’t mind the occasional fun night out with the girls, but prefer a quiet night in, but I guess it’s all just about living life and finding balance.

SARAH
Mental Health Support Worker
I am a mum of four boys and three pups. I enjoy the outdoors, from the bush to the beach and everything between. I just adore being around animals.
I had a change of career in 2023 and chose to move into mental health. I wanted to pursue a career where I could feel that I am making a difference to the lives of people that need it the most.
I came to Fortitude with lived experience, supporting people close to me struggling with their mental health. I have watched and experienced how hard this is for people and their family.
Being a mental health support worker is very important to me. I love that we can make a difference, no matter how small that may be and that we can help empower people to believe in themselves and their individual qualities.
